12th Louisiana Jacket


This is a jacket based on photographs of members of the12th Louisiana Infantry in 1861.  The jacket is made from dark indigo dyed cotton denim, with a cotton osnaburg lining.  The jacket is entirely sewn by an 1858 Wilcox and Gibb chain stitch machine, with the collar and button holes being finished by hand.  Black wool chevron trim is set by hand, and is only on the outer sleeve, with edges hidden by the seams of the sleeve.  Six button front, with brass coin buttons, as were worn by the members of the 12th Louisiana Infantry in 1861.
